Holly Hughes was born and raised in Colorado, but has since lived in Utah and Oregon, and has finally made her home here in beautiful Oahu. Her preferred media are watercolor, gouache, and metallic acrylic ink. Holly’s artistic style is strongly influenced by illuminated manuscripts, Persian miniatures, and the Art Nouveau Movement.
In addition to creating artwork, Holly also has a background in archaeology. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in archaeology from Brigham Young University. Her archaeological expeditions have taken her to the Great Basin Region of the U.S. and to sites in Jordan and Syria. Her experiences at archaeological sites in Jordan and Syria along with her travels to Egypt and Europe have inspired many of the themes and subject matter in her works.
